Amber is a fossilized tree resin that has taken 40-60 million years to form. Just occasionally, amber will contain the remnants of ancient plant matter or insects. The best quality amber comes from the Baltic region of Europe.
Amber comes in many shades and colours; the most common are cognac, honey, green, yellow, ivory and creamy yellow and because it is a lightweight organic substance, each piece is unique.
Amber was an important commodity in ancient cultures and it was a substance that was highly valued. It was traded around the world as far back as 10,000 years ago and is just as popular today.
